FCC chairman Ajit Pai sent a letter in November to more than a dozen phone providers demanding they adopt &#8220;a robust call authentication system to combat illegal caller ID spoofing.&#8221; Pai warned that the FCC &#8220;will take action&#8221; if it doesn&#8217;t see any progress in creating such a system by 2019.<br>\n&#8220;Combatting illegal robocalls is our top consumer priority at the FCC,&#8221; Pai said in a statement last month.<br><br>\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/technology\/think-youre-getting-more-spam-calls-youre-probably-right\" target=\"_blank\">Telemarketing calls cross 5B for the first time in July.<\/a><br>\nFBN&#8217;s Lauren Simonetti on telemarketing calls hitting record highs.<br>\nIf you feel like you\u2019ve been receiving more pesky, automated spam phone calls lately, you\u2019re probably right.<br>\nAccording to a new report from the app RoboKiller, Americans received a record-shattering number of more than 5 billion robocalls in July \u2013 or nearly 19 spam calls for every single person \u2013 compared to 2.62 billion a year ago.<br>\nThe number of telemarketing phone calls began to spike in May, according to RoboKiller, which reported 3.7 million calls.
