\nWhen a 61-year-old man was stabbed in the back on his Napa County property Saturday morning, he pulled the knife out of his back and stabbed the 33-year-old assailant, officials said. Both the homeowner and attacker are recovering from non-life-threatening stab wounds.

\n\nThe ordeal began when the power went out at the home on the 5200 block of Silverado Trail on Saturday morning. The homeowner stepped outside to check the electrical box, and that\u2019s when he reportedly noticed a trespasser on his property. Shortly after, Dixon allegedly stabbed the property owner in the back and a fight ensued with the two wrestling on the ground, each trying to get control of the knife, sheriff\u2019s office spokesperson Henry Wofford said. \u201cThere\u2019s evidence that the suspect was directly tied to turning off the power on the man\u2019s home,\u201d he said.

\n\n\u201cThe homeowner pulled the knife from his back and stabbed the suspect in his torso,\u201d Wofford said. \u201cIt was literally a fight for his life,\u201d he added. \u201cThis is a 61-year-old victim fighting someone nearly half his age.\u201d

\n\nA family member called 911 at about 9:30 a.m., and the homeowner was able to hold Dixon until deputies arrived, according to the sheriff\u2019s office. \u201cWe\u2019re happy this homeowner is still alive,\u201d Wofford said. \u201cThis could have been a much worse outcome. We\u2019re glad a family member called 911. The fact that he\u2019s recovering at home is great news.\u201d

\nIn a stunning reversal of fortune, a 61-year-old man who was stabbed outside his Napa County home defended himself by taking the knife out and stabbing his assailant back, police say.

\n\nWhen the victim confronted Dixon for trespassing, officials said, Dixon responded by pulling out a knife and stabbing the victim in the back. The two got in a fight, and as the pair wrestled, the 61-year-old man pulled the knife out from his back and used it to stab Dixon in the torso right below his chest, according to Wofford. “You have a fight-or-flight type personality,” Wofford said. “This person was a fight personality.”

\n\nThe stabbing brought Dixon to his knees and he remained subdued until authorities arrived. Both men were transported to Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

\n\nDixon was discharged from the hospital Saturday and booked into Napa County jail on suspicion of attempted murder, elder abuse and assault with a deadly weapon. He remains in custody without bail, though charges had yet to be submitted Monday to the Napa County district attorney’s office, according to spokesman Carlos Villatoro.

\n\nAfter surviving the attack, the man has been released from the hospital, Wofford said. “This story has a happy ending,” Wofford said. “Not all of them end this way.”
