Oceans with fish aplenty or barren sea without fish? Fracking involves using a high-pressure water mixture to penetrate rock in order to release gas. Can gas be replaced by solar energy? Can there be life without water (already short)?

Fracking involves using a high-pressure water mixture to penetrate rock in order to release gas.

Energy Minister Fergus Ewing announces a moratorium on fracking in Scotland.
The Scottish government has announced a block on planned fracking operations, pending further inquiries.

Ministers will carry out new work on the environmental and health implications of the controversial gas drilling technique.

Full control over fracking is due to be devolved to Scotland after May's general election.

In the meantime, consent for unconventional oil and gas developments will be refused on planning grounds.

The announcement by Scottish Energy Minister Fergus Ewing came a day after the boss of the Grangemouth chemical plant said the UK must embrace shale gas.

Tom Crotty, from Ineos, said high energy prices were damaging the industrial sector.

Supertrawlers to be banned permanently from Australian waters
Move follows temporary bans on large freezer-factory vessels imposed by Labor and endorsed by Tony Abbott in March.

"Supertrawlers are part of a global problem that has led to the devastation of the world’s fisheries, marine life and local livelihoods, and we don’t want that kind of fishing in Australia."

A total of almost 80% of the world's fisheries are fully- to over-exploited, depleted, or in a state of collapse. Worldwide about 90% of the stocks of large predatory fish stocks are already gone.
