Photos of the Day: Lucky Strike, Penguin Parade, Marble Caves, Eagle Training, Birds of Paradise, Three Good Friends
Lucky Strike
Storm chaser and Your Shot photographer Vanessa Neufeld captured this scene in Keyes, Oklahoma. "As the evening descended, so did a barrage of lightning in northwest Oklahoma."
Penguin Parade
A group of gentoo penguins cross the beach at sunrise on Saunders Island, the fourth largest island in the Falkland Islands.
Marble Caves
Las Cuevas de Mármol (The Marble Caves) sit in the middle of General Carrera Lake, which lies between Chile and Argentina. The tunnels and caves are only reachable by boat. The swooping arches have been formed by more than 6,000 years of water lapping against the rock, and the waters change color depending on the time of year.
Eagle Training
In Mongolia, a hunter named Saliukhan pauses with his golden eagle. In this region, training eagles for hunting is a skill that is passed on through generations. The eagles hunt small animals in the mountains, which in turn will be made into traditional fur clothes. Your Shot photographer Biljana Jurukovski writes that once an eagle has been captive for 10 years, the hunter releases it back into the wild.
Fast Food
It was very dark in the Rainforest of Manuel Antonio as Your Shot photographer Barbara Seiberl-Stark watched for Costa Rica's famously diverse wildlife. "The only light was the bright orange color of the flowers along the way," she recalls. Also drawn to the light was a hummingbird who dove into the flower for a sugary breakfast.
Three Good Friends
While driving on Ireland's scenic Ring of Kerry, Your Shot photographer Max Malloy could resist stopping at a roadside market for this smiling threesome. "It looks like the man is making a cross with reeds while the dog barks instructions and the donkey checks his work," he says.
