"Before we get into the show, we, like all of you, were shaken up a bit last night when we learned that genius comedian and actor Robin Williams passed away. He's one of a kind. He's one in a million. He's unbelievable," Fallon said, choking back tears, before doing his best impersonation of the legend.
"And you'd watch him and you would cry laughing and you would think I am never going to see anyone like this human ever. It's just amazing," the host continued. "His brain was always thinking 10 steps ahead of what he was saying. He was like the Muhammad Ali of comedy."
Fallon then aired a clip of Williams' first Tonight Showappearance with Johnny Carson, before standing on his desk and quoting the famous Walt Whitman poem in tribute to Williams' early film Dead Poets Society.

Robin Williams' legacy: A big heart for charity
On screen, Robin Williams was a whirlwind of energy. Off screen, Williams channeled that energy into charitable work. The late actor offered his time, money and celebrity name to over 50 charities and causes, according to Look to the Stars, a website that compiles the charitable works of celebrities.
One of his most visible efforts was fund-raising for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Williams began appearing in commercials and public service announcements for the hospital in 2004. St. Jude said Williams never charged a fee for his participation in any events or activities. Whenever he had an opportunity to meet patients and families he would do it. When you have a person of Robin's caliber, it helps sick kids forget about their diseases for a while." said Kelly Schulz, vice president of communications at St. Jude.
The same year, Williams joined the board of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, which raises money for spinal cord injury research. Williams served on the board for four years. Williams and Christopher Reeve, the actor and director, were roommates when they were students at the Juilliard performing arts school in New York. "Robin would do two or three dinners or events for us each year," said Peter Wilderotter, CEO of the foundation. "Many celebs have requirements about cars and who they will talk to, but Robin was the opposite. He showed up on his own and he stayed at our events and talked to everyone,"
Christopher Reeve ‘Wanted To Die’ Until Robin Williams Lifted His Spirits - A Look At Their Extraordinary Friendship
It was Williams who lifted Reeve’s spirits after a devastating accident in which he was thrown from a horse left him paralyzed. Reeve was quoted later as telling Barbara Walters that he “wanted to die” — until Williams’ visit. “I lay on my back, frozen, unable to avoid thinking the darkest thoughts,” Reeve wrote in his 1996 autobiography, Still Me. “For the first time since the accident, I laughed. My old friend had helped me know that somehow I was going to be okay.”
Williams went on to support and advocate the Reeve Foundation which posted a tribute to the Dead Poets Society actor on their website: “While the world knew Robin Williams as an Oscar-winning actor, we knew a different side to the man whose smile was as big as his heart. While our hearts ache with the loss of our friend, it is unlikely Robin would want us to mourn his passing with silence, but to celebrate his life through laughter,” the site wrote. “Together, let’s remember Robin for the man who made the world laugh.”
